About ANZO
Australians and New Zealanders are friendly creatures who enjoy social activities. As there are no Embassies for either country in Oman, the ANZO group was formed to facilitate support and provide social interaction, with a particular focus on celebrating events unique to both countries such as ANZAC remembrance, the famous Melbourne Cup horse race and the national day festivities associated with Australia Day and Waitangi Day.
Of course we absolutely enjoy socialising with other nationalities too, so by organising events like the annual ANZO Ball and sports challenges (where all nationalities are welcome) we cater for the broader Muscat community as well.
ANZO members are encouraged to experience the local culture and traditions and engage with the Omani and ex-pat communities alike. In Muscat there are several support groups representing other countries and hobby groups where they welcome membership from all nationalities to join. Refer to the Links section for further details.
Currently ANZO is led by a core committee who generously volunteer their time, plus several other ANZO members and sponsors who contribute in various ways to support our activities and events. While ANZO is not officially connected with the Australian or New Zealand governments, they consider us an important link in Oman and we willingly cooperate when they request our assistance.
ANZO also welcomes all South Pacific Islanders (whanau) to join as members.
